Carmilla

Old fogies

Posted by Carmilla Apr. 10, 2008 @ 9:16 PM EDT

It's funny. FBI, Monocrom, Neph, me, and several others have gotten to posting pictures and misc. jokings-around from old times on the BBS in the "Carmilla & FBI in Australia Pics" topic. What's sad is how fast the topic scrolls off the front page with a rare glance from the average users. I guess since it involves users and mods that are not around as much anymore the new kids aren't able to find the humor in it.

This thread is a perfect example of how much the BBS changes and how the member turn-over rate is so high. It's also a good example of why I, and so many others, don't post very often anymore. There just isn't the same type of feel to the new crowd as there was to the old (with occasional exception, of course).

Good times, just the same. Maybe us old users need to start some good old fashioned threads more often, huh?

Awww, I know what you mean.

I just can't find people I want to interact with in posts, so no new topics for me.... I post in some random things for no reason other than to waste a few minutes, it's sad that at my age I'm not wasting my time elsewhere... *sigh* Time to get a kid... through whatever means.... Adoption might make me happy :)

Anway, take care...

Apr. 11, 2008 | 9:25 PM Carmilla responds:

I know! Most of my posts nowadays are one-liners and many are accompanied by a locking of the thread or a ban. *sigh*

We need content, dammit.

Do you make lots of money and see pretty places in Europe? If so you can adopt me. =)

you know, after a while everyone notices this same type of thing. It's like nobody cool is around anymore and all the new kids are douches. but if you look at it real closely, their 4chan idiotic jokes are basically the same crap we did 5 years ago, when we were their age. but I still miss old people. I tried looking around at the spinoff forums that users created, but they always die out. like spasmbot. format's harddrive died after the site was hacked and that's the end of it. latingrounds is basically dead, tanner stopped paying the bills for severedheads.

and after some time...you just can't find them anymore, no matter how much e stalking and creepyness you try, because most of them aren't even on the net anymore. if only they stayed just as active but someplace else. :(

I miss my old friends from years ago, but I have made new ones here and there.

I do make a relative lot of money and I do travel a bit, but all in all, the hours are brutal sometimes.

Say I earnt at the moment $100k a year, that sounds pretty good, but take tax, housing and the rest from it in London and it's not so hot. In addition to get that much I might be doing 2-3 months a year of 11 - 14 hour days each, if I was in China I'd be working Saturday and Sunday, whereas here in the UK, I keep some weekends free, some I work, etc.

Still, the progression is good, if I want it to be. That 100k can turn into 200k pretty easily and so on in a few more years, oh well, not sure if my body can handle it. I look at my modelling photos and wince, those were the days :)

Anyway, money is not everything, which is why I talk about kids :D

Apr. 12, 2008 | 9:36 PM Carmilla responds:

There's some major truth to that, honey. =) I wish you luck!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 6:17 PM Monocrom says:

Except for my story threads, the topics I start tend to only go to 2 pages.

The change on the forums is unfortunate. I miss several Old-Timers who no longer stop by. (Glad Neph decided to come back). So many cool Old-Timers who made the BBS fun.....

I guess the only place for Old-Timers on NG, is the Mod forum. Not sure how active it is, and not all of us have access to it. Truth is, the Carmilla & FBI thread is the most fun I've had on the BBS in a long time.

Apr. 16, 2008 | 10:14 AM FBIpolux says:

Yeah... I keep crying about how much more fun 2004-2005 on the BBS was, how users were more interesting and not as dumb as they are now...
It looks like 2007-2008 brought a wave of spammers, furfags, n00bs, dumbasses, and other kinds of idiots that would get flamed to death / banned every time they'd post back in 2005. People like life don't seem understand why I keep talking about the "Good old days" as he says these days are gone... But people should actually take example on us old schoolers... and not on all the idiotic spammers that now reign on the BBS. No wonder why you don't want to post anymore... I don't really know why but I actually try to make people change, help the BBS in my way, since I'm not a Moderator... Try to teach people the ways of the old school :)

Anyways, short story long, I miss the old days too.

Aaaaand stupid god fucking jesus christ idiotic Blizzard GMs. I sent a Fax with all my infos and they're like "THE ID HAS TO BE WITH THE OFFICIAL PAGE EVEN THOUGH THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO SPACE FOR AN ID ON THERE AND WE'RE DUMB."

Even though my late sign-up date i really agree with what you think. Even though i wasnt involved in the "old-days" i can only imagine how good the BBS was. Now it is ruled by a bunch of 13 year olds photoshopping Bedn or using bad grammar. I would appreciate it if you sent me the link to one of your - mature - thread. Its sick the spam thats going about to. WTF is the point?

Apr. 24, 2008 | 10:59 AM Alkiline says:

Well, I don't know anything about these 'old days' of yours, but I must say that I do enjoy being here on NG. I don't start too many threads, but when I do contribute it is of substance. I like to have a good time as much as anybody else, and I would have to agree with FBIpolux's statement. Just keep posting as an example of how you would like others to post. It will catch on.

By the way, I've got a wife and two kids with one more on the way. It doesn't stop me from getting on here and enjoying my time. Kids are a blessing and lifes biggest challange.

Apr. 24, 2008 | 11:35 AM MadMax says:

But it seems also that others could be left out from the whole inside joke, giving a strong impression of rejection and "you can't post here unless you know us all" type of thing.

Simply bringing the devil's advocate here.

Apr. 24, 2008 | 11:36 AM DJ-Keen says:

You guys have always left posts that made me smile.. and I very recently got to talk to Neph a bit.. But I've never got to talk to you. :P

The regulars like you guys are the only ones worth anyone's time on these forums.. I've very recently become REALLY active. Posting dozens of times per day, I've nearly doubles my post per day count over the past couple months.. But I am just starting to realize how fun it is to be part of this community. :)

I even went back to some of my '05 posts and saw some posts you left in some of my threads, and they made me smile. :)

Every thread you make, every word you take, I'll be watchin yooooooou.

Srsly.

Apr. 24, 2008 | 12:06 PM gumOnShoe says:

Yeah, its just a different social group. The "shit" hasn't changed, but the accepted social groups have. I think older users just aren't as recognized or respected, like they were at the height of their popularity.

Making more threads and participating actively in the BBS really is the only way to change that. I got a laugh from the thread though. :)

Apr. 25, 2008 | 9:19 PM SevenSeize says:

I wasn't around back then, but I enjoy the threads you guys make anyway.
I agree about member turn over. I wish people would stay. The good ones always leave.

Aww.... The pic is gone. But you'll never delete what's in my head! Ha ha!

BTW, now that a certain someone got re-modded, you gonna be more active than ever before??

(Please say yes!)
